What is a septic tank?
A septic tank is an underground watertight box made of fiberglass, concrete, or plastic. Wastewater flows from the home to the septic inlet and outlet baffles. A septic system retains solids and scum in the tank and pipes liquids to your septic drain field. Once septic wastewater flows to the drain field, it percolates into the soil. Within the soil, microbes remove and digest harmful, bacteria, viruses, and nutrients before they reach the groundwater.
